Urgent Help Needed: Lucy's Surgery for an Impacted Crop
Greetings to all the passionate enthusiasts out there!
Lucy, a charming and affectionate chicken, has unfortunately developed a condition known as an impacted crop. For those unfamiliar with this ailment, an impacted crop occurs when a chicken's crop, which is part of their digestive system, becomes obstructed, preventing the normal flow of food and water. It is a painful and potentially life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention.
I have been diligently working to alleviate Lucy's discomfort through various home treatments. On a daily basis, I have been feeding her melted coconut oil to help soften the contents in her crop. I have also mastered giving her a probiotic pill daily, which she has mastered consuming. Following the oil treatment, I massage her crop in hopes that it would encourage the obstruction to pass through.
Regrettably, despite the efforts over the past few weeks, her condition has not improved. In fact, due to the prolonged impactions, she has developed another condition known as sour crop. To ensure her nutritional needs are met, I started supplementing her diet with eggs, vitamins, and yeast infection medication to provide her with essential nutrients and care during this challenging time.
I remain committed to doing everything within my power to support Lucy's recovery and well-being. However, her current state necessitates surgical intervention to address both the impacted crop and sour crop. Tomorrow morning, she and I will take a mini road trip to a vet in New Hampshire where she will undergo a crucial surgical procedure that we hope will bring her relief and restore her health.
As a non-profit organization, we rely solely on the generosity of compassionate individuals like you in times of financial burdens. The estimated cost of Lucy's surgery is anticipated to be 'a couple hundred' according to the receptionist at the vet, but I am guessing it will be around $300. Over the weekend, my amazing Mother in Law added a bake sale to her garage sale to fundraise for us. We will be using this, along with saved funds, to help cover this critical medical expense.
This month has presented numerous obstacles that have prevented me from devoting time to fundraising needs.
Your donation, no matter the amount, will make a profound difference in Lucy's life and help ensure that we can continue providing a safe and loving environment for countless other unwanted chickens. Together, we can ensure Lucy receives the professional care she urgently needs.
