Meet The Chickens
Below are all of the chickens we have at The Retirement Roost Rescue. We always have chickens available for adoption, and all chickens are available to sponsor. Check out their stories and consider adding one to your flock or sponsoring a chicken. Each chicken adopted out makes room for one more chicken in need.
The Retirement Roost Rescue is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit, tax exempt organization. All donations made to the rescue are 100% tax deductible.

TRAILER
The Queen of the Hen House. Trailer was given to Rose with Truck in April of 2019. Trailer looks just like her daughter, Opal, except Trailer's 'head fluff' is always a mess...just like she is. Trailer does now know how to roost and can be found snuggled up to Truck in the nesting box or sunbathing alone
Trailer has been virtually adopted until March of 2023. Thank you to Kayla M. for your kind donation!
Trailer is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in March of 2023.

OPAL
Opal was an accidental hatch here at the Retirement Roost Rescue. She emerged from her shell in October of 2019. Although she looks just like her mother, we can tell the difference because she knows how to roost and is more photogenic.
Due to the fact we often mix her up with Trailer (on good hair days), she is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted.

ZOE
Queen of hoarding eggs. Zoe wants nothing more than to be a mother and can often be found with numerous eggs under her.
She was found roaming a house in Chester, NH, and was added to a nearby flock. She was at the bottom of the pecking order and needed a new flock. She was happily rehomed at The Retirement Roost Rescue in February 2021.
Zoe has been virtually adopted until September of 2023. Thank you to Sadie S. for your kind donation.
Zoe is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in September of 2023.

Chicky
Chicky was surrendered in June 2020 with her brother Zorro. Unfortunately, Zorro was taken by a hawk in late 2021 and now Chicky is the smallest member of the group.
She is mouthy, fast, and great at escaping through the small openings of the back run.
Chicky has been virtually adopted until September of 2023. Thank you to Laura B. for your kind donation.
Chicky is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in September of 2023.

Pom Pom
Pom Pom was another accidental hatch on the farm. Her mother is Reece (who was a beautiful Seabright and was taken by a hawk) and her father is Truck. However, Trailer is the one who hatched her out and took care of her in the absence of her mother.
She is shy and also wants babies all of the time.
Pom Pom has been virtually adopted until March of 2023. Thank you to Amy C. for your kind donation.
Pom Pom is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in March of 2023.

Sunshine
Sunshine was added in March of 2021. She came from a farm in Northfield, MA that runs their farm off egg sales. Once the chickens reach about 2 years in age they start to slow down and they are replaced with younger hens. I have teamed up with the owner of this farm to rehome over 60 hens.
Sunshine got her name after escaping from the back run and sunbathing in the sunshine for over two weeks.
Sunshine has been virtually adopted until March of 2023. Thank you to Missy H. (and family) for your kind donation.
Sunshine is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in March of 2023.

Michelle
Michelle was added to the flock in September of 2021. She was part of an existing flock but was the only survivor after a raccoon attack and a bobcat attack. Her owners decided to no longer have chickens.
Michelle was handled by children her entire lift and is very friendly. She is the first one in line to free-range and will happily eat any snack from your hand.
Michelle has been virtually adopted until January of 2023. Thank you to Savannah G. for your kind donation.
Michelle is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in January of 2023.

Marshmallow
Marshmallow was added in May of 2020. She came from a farm in Northfield, MA that runs their farm off egg sales. Once the chickens reach about 2 years in age they start to slow down and they are replaced with younger hens. I have teamed up with the owner of this farm to rehome over 60 hens.
Marshmallow has recently been treated for a respiratory illness, and is back to her healthy and happy self.
Marshmallow has been virtually adopted until October of 2023. Thank you to Christina S. for your kind donation.
Marshmallow is a permanent resident of The Retirement Roost Rescue but can be virtually adopted in October of 2023.

Willow
Willow was added to the flock in September of 2022. She came with her flock friend, Red. Willow was not being accepted by her flock and her owners wanted her to be happy somewhere she was accepted.
Willow has been accepted here and is fitting in great! I am in contact with her previous owners often as I know it was a difficult decision to make.

Junior
Junior was added in September of 2022 and is one of the first THREE to join our first Bachelor Pad. He and Squirt were surrendered because their current flock/coop did not have room for them. Their family was amazing and they check in often.
Junior is the KING of the Bachelor Pad, and also the KING of escaping. He enjoys following our dog, Luna, and trying to blend in since they are the same color.
Junior is a permanent resident.

Squirt
Squirt was added in September of 2022 and is one of the first THREE to join our first Bachelor Pad. He and Junior were surrendered because their current flock/coop did not have room for them. Their family was amazing and they check in often.

Fuzzy Feet
Fuzzy Feet was added in September of 2022 and is one of the first THREE to join our first Bachelor Pad. He traveled a whopping .15 miles to join the crew. :) My sweet neighbor had a hard time getting her roosters to be friends, so one had to go.
Fuzzy Feet is very handsome, and very loved by my toddler because of his name. We are still waiting for him to find his voice, and also grow back his tail.
Fuzzy Feet is a permanent resident.

Bertucci & Ernesto
Bertucci & Ernesto (Bert & Ernie) were added in October of 2022. They are quite handsome and a great duo, but they are usually called 'naughty boys' instead of Bert and Ernie.
They were surrendered due to their aggression. We have been working daily on human trust.
Bert and Ernie are part of the Bachelor Pad, but are still in quarantine huts until their aggression is under control.

These two hens were surrendered with Punky BRooster in October of 2022.
They are very sweet, friendly, and outgoing. They live with their main squeeze and a few more ladies in the Misfit Coop.

DD
Oh, DD. She has quite the story. I saw on a local Facebook page that there was a hen living outside someone's house. I decided to attempt to catch her, which failed me three times. Finally, I was able to get her home because some sweet lady was able to catch her and was holding her when I went back for a fourth time.
It turns out DD was my friend's chicken, who lives nearby, but she was a wanderer. She wound up roosting at a neighbors house, then eventually continued her adventure.
Thankfully there were some amazing people who lived in the area who fed her and made the posts about her.
She is so happy now, and so sweet and has been here since November of 2022.

Harry
Harry is a sweet boy who was surrendered with his two brothers in December of 2022. One brother stayed with him, and the other went to a local farm to have a flock of his own.
Harry joined the boys in the bachelor flock and is so sweet.

Hagrid
Hagrid joined the rescue with Harry and his other brother. His brother went to live on a farm with a flock of his own, but Hagrid and Harry live with the boys in the bachelor flock.
Although handsome, he is not the best at roosting and often needs help finding use of his wings to get on the roosting bar.

Pinky Pie
The SWEETEST hen we have here! I feel this little gal would rather hang with humans all day than be bothered by chickens.
You can catch Pinky Pie at my doorstep trying to come in, trying to escape when I open the door, or nuzzled into me.
Honestly, her owners handled her so much and I am so blessed she joined us in December of 2022.
